Mate (Second Mate / Chief Mate) – Permanent Position

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Mate for a permanent position, either as Second Mate or Chief Mate, with documented experience from square-rigged sailing vessels.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must hold the following valid certifications and endorsements:

  • Chief Officer Certificate of Competency for the applicable trading area, in accordance with STCW Regulation A-II/2, including endorsement under A-I/10.1
  • Valid Medical Certificate in accordance with STCW Regulation A-I/9
  • General Operator’s Certificate (GOC)
  • STCW Basic and Advanced Safety Training certificates, including:
    • A-VI/1 (1-4) Basic Safety Training
    • A-VI/2-1 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
    • A-VI/3 Advanced Fire Fighting
    • A-VI/4-1 Medical First Aid
    • A-VI/4-2 Medical Care
  • Crowd Management and Crisis Management Training in accordance with STCW Regulations A-V/2-1 and A-V/2-2
  • Valid C1/D Visa for entry into and service in the United States

Previous service on traditional sailing vessels, particularly square-rigged ships, will be considered a significant advantage. Strong leadership, seamanship, and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.
